You don’t have time to search. For some people, the thrill of finding a one-of-a-kind fixture outweighs the time spent combing antique stores, eBay, and the like. But if you have a tight deadline in mind for your kitchen project, you may not want to wait for the perfect light to come along. With reproduction fixtures, what you see is what you get—today and six months from now. You’ll also have the peace of mind of knowing that if the fixture gets damaged (say, a shade breaks), you can easily replace it.
A dining room takes the place of the 1950s den, and opens up onto the terrace and gardens. Two windows were added on the north side of the room for additional light. The family room now has three south-facing windows overlooking the pool. Vitzthum added beadboard to the cathedral ceiling for texture in the family room
Keep in mind, that with dimmers installed for a layered lighting scheme, it can be very easy for other occupants of your home, as well as guests, to alter your perfectly balanced settings, throwing off the carefully curated look and feel of your kitchen. To avoid this – or at least easily recover from it – consider installing a smart lighting system with “scenes” that you can program, allowing you to reset the kitchen’s light layers to your preferences at the push of a button.
