If the kitchen is the heart of the home, then what does that make the kitchen island? In most kitchens it is the most important work and socialising space, which means it deserves high-quality lighting solutions. Luckily there are no shortage of options designed to add serious lighting and great style to your kitchen.
Keep in mind, that with dimmers installed for a layered lighting scheme, it can be very easy for other occupants of your home, as well as guests, to alter your perfectly balanced settings, throwing off the carefully curated look and feel of your kitchen. To avoid this – or at least easily recover from it – consider installing a smart lighting system with “scenes” that you can program, allowing you to reset the kitchen’s light layers to your preferences at the push of a button.
You want something truly unique. If you’re looking for a fixture that can serve as a focal point—say, above an island or within a breakfast nook—a vintage light is the way to go. Getting that distinctive look doesn’t require going fully vintage, though; you can also pair a reproduction fixture with a vintage shade.
