But, one of our policies is to publish any kitchen layout because while I may not be a huge fan, somebody may like it and find it helpful. This website is all about inspiring, providing useful information and helping people. It’s not my vanity project. Welcome to our huge kitchen island ideas page where we showcase hundreds of kitchens with islands of all types – big islands, small islands, rectangular, square, curved, dark, light or for working space or a place for small appliances such as coffee makers, microwaves, toasters, etc.
In the 18th century, kitchens often had a simple dry sink, a rectangular cabinet used to wash dishes before indoor plumbing, and a central worktable. Worktables began as fairly plain objects standing on open legs, and were used to knead dough, prepare foods, and store cooking accessories. Because kitchens were not family spaces at the time, worktables really weren’t used for sit-down meals.
This kitchen beats the traditional style layout and gives a very contemporary feel to the kitchen. The kitchen island adds more character to the kitchen with cool and dark surfaces, high-end cabinetry, marble or stone countertops, stainless steel fixtures etc. there are different types of styles like rustic, eclectic, vintage, contemporary, Asian style kitchens available in the island plan.
