With the pantries complete, we moved onto the floor. We wanted a large size subway tile in a dark grey that was easy to care for and still felt modern. We found the perfect match the perfect match at Home Depot and then came home as well as watched about 45 minutes of how-to videos.
Acrylic finish is very durable and can last for decades. Because it is available in many different colours, it can be customized to suit the décor of the home. Not only is this finish scratch resistant, it can also resist the effects of ultraviolet light and even moisture. It is also very easy to clean, requiring only soap and water. Aesthetically speaking, this finish can also provide beautiful contrasts in texture when used with different backsplash materials.
Rather than using square subway tile, Katie applied Heath tile in classic white. It's similar to subway tile but has an interesting hexagonal shape, puzzled together with dark gray grouting (a practical color to conceal any future dirt or stains). Custom wood shelves were made locally to break up the upper cabinets and to emphasize the beauty of the tiles. The porcelain slab countertops are a gorgeous addition to this modern kitchen. Did I mention they're basically unbreakable?
